Architecture
Architecture (in Greek αρχή = first and τέχνη = craftsmanship) is the art and science of designing buildings and structures. In fact, it is more than that. Famed American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson aptly described this discipline in 1841, “Architecture and eloquence are mixed arts, whose end is sometimes beauty and sometimes use.”
At Sequence we know that the profession of designing buildings and environments with consideration for their esthetic effect. A wider definition would include within its scope the design of the total built environment, from the macro level of town planning, urban design, and landscape architecture to the micro level of furniture.
The diligent efforts at Sequence support an array of architecture activities and initiatives for our clients through recruitment and placement of highly capable staff, management and executive level personnel. We are well versed in all facets and undertakings of this profession.
The construction of any building is extremely complex, but without a solid plan and blueprint it would be impossible. The design of a structure must take many things into account such as the surrounding environment, the ultimate purpose of the building, the materials to be used in its construction, state and federal building codes and the final aesthetic the architect wishes to achieve.
There are many levels of design which fall within architecture’s scope from the larger jobs of town planning and urban design to the design of furniture or playground equipment. For the construction industry, architectural design must address both feasibility and cost for the builder, as well as function and aesthetics for the user.
There are several sub-specialties of architecture, but in the environmental industry the most common is landscape architecture. This can be as simple as designing the layout for a kitchen garden or as elaborate as creating a thriving city park.
Another important sub-specialty is that of architectural engineering which applies the skills of many engineering disciplines to the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and renovation of buildings while paying attention to their impacts on the surrounding environment.
